Salween River Band was founded by two musician brothers, Moe Nyunt and Thiri Nyunt, in the Summer time of 1998. The members are their two ethnic friends, Paul Lahpai (Kachin National) and Soe Moe Oo (Karen National). Ko Maung Win had joined the band in June, 2002. The new generation, Mon and Karen youths, Saw Kah Paw, Aung Zar Myo Lwin, Cherry Oo, and Ei Mon Kyaw, joined the band in 2003, as the backing vocalists. Ko Myo Aung (PaO National), second Lead Guitarist, had joined the band in September 2005 Seattle concert, as a permanent member. A new member who joined Salween River music band was Mehn Thet Khaing, a Mon National, Second Guitar player. He joined this band at the beginning of 2007. The name of their band, Salween River, is one of the two longest rivers in their country, and known as a war-torn river for more than five decades. It flows through various states such as Shan, Karen, Karenni (Kayah) and Mon, and is a part of the borderline of Burma (Myanmar) and Thailand. The founder of this band, Moe and Thiri, have more than twenty years of experience in music since they were the key players of a professional music band in Burma, named “The Dynamites”. They played the background music for movies, music albums, TV series, live-concerts, and many other events. Before they founded Salween River band, they had played background music for most Burmese celebrities who came to visit the United States such as Sai Htee Saeng, Than Naing (Playboy), Lashio Thein Aung, Soe Paing, Kai Zar, Academy Soe Thu, Lwin Moe, Ye Aung, Mar Mar Aye, Nwe Yin Win, May Sweet, Htun Eindra Bo, Poe Darli Thein Dan, Aye Chan May, Bo Bo Han, Khin Maung Htoo, Than Myat Soe, May Khalar, Connie, Tint Tint Tun, etc... Now the Salween River Band has been recognized as one of the best Burmese Professional Music bands among Burmese communities for their outstanding Performance. The band had already performed all over the United States and Canada such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Maryland, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Seattle, Vancouver BC, etc... The two brothers, Moe and Thiri, have named their band as "Salween River" to dedicate thousands of unknown youths, not only Burmese but also ethnic youths, who lost their lives along the Salween river. Thiri said, "they all are Martyrs". He added that Salween River should be a symbol of peace and national unification in Burma. The members of this band have rights to play individually with any other music lovers or other professional musicians. “Most musicians like freedom, they hate restriction”, said Thiri. |
